What’s Filmora9

For many years, I refused to recommend Wondershare Filmora video editing software… until version 9 came along.

I loved it so much that I arranged and conducted a live class teaching participants how to use Filmora9.

Ok, Filmora9 is not a professional video editing software like Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. There is “Filmora Pro” for that.

So, Filmora9 is a simple-to-use video editing software that gets your videos edited faster… and it comes with lots of animated text motion graphics (without the need for After Effects). 😱

In the first part of the class, I demonstrate the 12 new features, most of which made me fall in love with the software.

12 New Features in Filmora9

Here are the 12 new features in Filmora9 that made me start to recommend this video editor to beginners.

  1. Up to 100 Video Tracks – I usually never use more than 10 tracks to overlay or super-impose my videos, so 100 video tracks is a lot of creative freedom.
  2. Faster Import and Export – It’s definitely faster now. The speed is one of the reasons I never recommended the previous versions. I want to churn out videos fast.
  3. High-Resolution Previews and Snapshots – Now I can see in detail what I am editing. At the same time, I can choose a frame and convert it to a high-resolution JPG image. I do that for my YouTube thumbnails.
  4. Adjustable Playback Quality – Continuing from the high-resolution preview, I can always switch it back to low-resolution preview, especially when it is too much of a strain to my computer with all my added effects.
  5. Enhanced Video Stabilization – Gimbal or no gimbal, I can now adjust the amount of stabilization to match the amount of shakiness in a video clip. Don’t rely on this though. Use only as a last resort to save a clip.
  6. Enhanced Chroma Key – Green screen or chroma key to replace a green background with another footage. Now it comes with extra adjustable options to make me blend more realistically with the background.
  7. Enhanced Audio Waveforms – Whenever I test any video editing application, I look out for audio waveform display. Without it, my editing process will be slowed down by 10 times.
  8. Envelope/Keyframe Audio Editing – I consider keyframes as a professional feature, so having it in Filmora9 is an added bonus. I wish they will add automatic audio ducking in the future.
  9. Up to 100 Audio Tracks – If we have 100 video tracks, of course, we must have 100 audio tracks. Again, I cannot imagine using more than 5 audio tracks, but then if you are making music, probably.
  10. Adjustable Track Size – Accuracy in video editing is looking at your clips in detail and making the track size bigger makes it easier to cut and trim, hence get the job done faster.
  11. PC/Mac Cross-Compatibility – I love this one. I hate being tied down to one ecosystem or platform. Just like Premiere Pro, I can continue my editing project from my Mac to a Windows laptop.
  12. Adjust Clips within the Video Preview – This feature should have been there since the beginning. Now that it’s there, we can adjust our video visually and not have to fiddle with sliders and numbers.

So that’s the 12 new features in Wondershare Filmora9 (try it free).

In the next part of this series, I will show you how to use Filmora9.
