My Kiddo’s laptop crashed. All memory wiped out. She lost her lecture notes, project work, and Final Fantasy Game. What if that happens to my video production laptop? Never! I have a video backup strategy plan… https://youtu.be/wkMixzq1Yhk
I always ensure there is a copy of my file existing somewhere else.
Video Backup Strategy #1: External Drives
For client videos, I will never delete my memory card until the entire project is delivered. At the same time, I will make a copy on an external hard drive.
Video Backup Strategy #2: Online Storage
Both my iPhone and android phone vlog footage are synced to the same Google Photos account. Facebook and YouTube are 2 other sites where I upload backups privately.
Video Backup Strategy #3: Live Stream
Whenever I live stream my training class, I ensure there is a recording on the local storage. It works for Facebook mobile. It works for OBS on the desktop.
I use google docs and google slides for my administrative work and training. They too have an offline version all the time.
My video backup methods are free, except for the cost of the external hard drive.
Side note: As for the hard drive, I’ve tried several brands and found the most reliable one that can last for years… Western Digital.
What’s your backup strategy?
