I Faked It: The VEO 3.1 Prompt That Generated a Cinematic NZ Drone Shot

Think you saw a real drone shot of me and my campervan in New Zealand? Surprise! I used AI to generate that scene. Here’s how (and the prompt I used!).

You might remember a dramatic drone shot from my recent DJI Neo 2 review video: me standing beside a campervan, with the camera smoothly rising to reveal the stunning, snow-capped mountains of New Zealand.

It looked real, didn’t it?

Well, here’s a little secret: I hadn’t even left for New Zealand yet! That entire sequence was 100% AI-generated.

I wanted to give a sneak peek of the kind of footage I’m hoping to capture with my new drone, but I didn’t want to wait. So, I turned to AI image generation to create a hyper-realistic scene.

It’s amazing what’s possible these days, and it just goes to show how powerful these tools are becoming for creators, even when you don’t have the real footage (yet!).

Now, let’s dive into the magic…

Forget buying a drone—just fake the footage! (Kidding… mostly).

I created this cinematic NZ drone shot to show the potential of my upcoming DJI Neo 2 review.

The entire scene (including me and the campervan) was generated by one simple AI Video Generator prompt.

First, I uploaded my selfie photo to VEO 3.1 and engineered this exact prompt…

“A real drone-style cinematic shot. Begin with a close, steady view of the person from the uploaded photo standing beside a white campervan parked on a gravel pull-off at New Zealand’s Mt. Cook region. The scenery features snow-capped mountains, turquoise glacial lakes, and dramatic valleys.

The drone hovers at eye level, locked onto the person, capturing natural sunlight, crisp shadows, and ultra-clean realism.

Then the drone ascends smoothly upward, rising higher and higher while maintaining focus on the person and campervan. As it climbs, the landscape widens: winding mountain roads, alpine terrain, and the vast openness of Mt. Cook National Park come into view.

Keep the camera motion stable, slow, and cinematic — gentle lift, no jerky movement.

Use realistic depth-of-field, natural wind ambience, and subtle exposure transitions as the drone rises.

Color tone: true-to-life New Zealand blues, greens, and snow whites.

Final framing: a high-altitude perspective showing the tiny campervan against the massive Mt. Cook landscape, still centered on the person.”
