How to Change Your YouTube Shorts Thumbnail Even After Posting

Creating engaging YouTube Shorts is key to growing your audience. But what if you realize your thumbnail isn’t quite right after you’ve already posted it? Don’t worry! You can easily change your Shorts thumbnail directly on your phone, no desktop required. This quick tutorial will show you how.

The Problem: Thumbnail Regret

We’ve all been there. You upload a Short, excited to share it, only to realize later that the chosen thumbnail isn’t as eye-catching as it could be. A blurry frame, an awkward expression, or maybe you just want to add some text. Previously, this meant deleting and re-uploading, losing any views or engagement you’d already gained. Thankfully, YouTube now allows you to edit your Shorts thumbnails directly on your mobile device.

The Solution: Mobile Thumbnail Editing

Here’s how to change your YouTube Shorts thumbnail on your phone, step-by-step:

* Open the YouTube App: Launch the YouTube app on your smartphone.
* Go to Your Channel: Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner, then select “Your Channel.”
* Select the Shorts Tab: Navigate to the “Shorts” tab to view all your Shorts videos.
* Find the Short: Locate the Short you want to edit.
* Tap the 3 Dots: On the Short’s thumbnail, you’ll see three vertical dots. Tap them.
* Select Edit: From the options that appear, choose “Edit.”
* Tap the Pencil Icon: You’ll now see the Short’s details. Tap the pencil icon on the current thumbnail.
* Choose a New Frame: You can now scroll through the video and select a different frame to use as your thumbnail.
* Add Text (Optional): You can also add text to your thumbnail at this stage.
* Save: Once you’re happy with your new thumbnail, tap the checkmark and then “Save.”
