Elgato HD60 S – Camera to Computer Video Capture Device

If you look at the name of the product, you will see that it’s called the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. Instead of capturing games, can we use it to record live video direct from our camera to the computer?

Let’s find out.

According to Elgato’s help page, we can use many different types of video cameras with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S as long as there is an HDMI output.

Here are the types of cameras that can work with Elgato Game Capture HD60 S… DSLRs (and mirrorless cameras), AVCHD cameras, medical cameras, security cameras, and digital camcorders… as long as there is an HDMI output.

When you hook up your camera to Elgato Game Capture HD60 S via HDMI, and it accepts the video, you can stream live or record the video to platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Facebook or Ustream… through the USB port on your computer.

As at June 2020, the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S is listed as the number one Best Seller on Amazon.

It works for both Mac and Windows OS computers with a USB 3.0 port, and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). So, if your computer does not have a GPU, then the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S may not be your solution to capture video from the camera to the computer.

In the same help page mentioned above, it says that the Elgato Cam Link is the better solution for using an HDMI-based camera with your computer since it was designed specifically for that purpose.
