I read a short post on Seth Godin’s Blog and decided to share a similar thought.

How to make a video go viral?

The best approach is to not try to make a video that will go viral.

No, the best approach is to make the video for just one person. Just speak to one person and make an impact. Even better, make it so entertaining, educational and engaging that they choose to share it with just one other person.

The rest will take care of itself.

PS:

That reminded me about my YouTube video that went viral for the same reason.
I documented the “accidental” viral video production process in an ebook “Instant Viral Video“.

Where have I been in the month of April 2013? What have I been doing?

It started with the long Easter weekend.

A corporate client flew me to Phuket Thailand to film his daughter’s wedding.

The wedding stretched 2 days, but I stayed longer and brought my wife along to assist in logistics.

There was editing of the express wedding highlights video in the process too. Burnt one sleepless night.

Here is the packing list of video gear I brought.

1. Panasonic AG-HMC151 camcorder.
2. Velbon carbon steel tripod.
3. Sennheiser wireless microphone.
4. LED video light.
5. Video Editing Laptop HP Pavilion dm3.

I brought the Sony MC50 camcorder as backup.

And of course lens cleaning kit, swiss knife, spare batteries, chargers and lots of SD cards.

I gave to client the whole set of raw footage on a 32GB SD card just in case. In case something happens to mine in transit back home.

I transferred the padding from my Vanguard camera bag into my carry-on luggage. Worked great. I had space left to squeeze in souvenirs.

After the wedding shoot, my wife and I extended our stay in Phuket one more day at sunny Patong Beach.

The following week after Easter was 6 full days of conference video shoot at Sentosa Singapore.

It was a week of good food and fine dining experience as I followed the conference delegates from the lectures in the ballroom to the tourist attractions of Singapore.

There was a lot of running around to different locations. So I had to travel light. I ditched the tripod. Had only the Panasonic HMC151 in one hand and a haversack on my back. The bag contained spare batteries, LED light, Lens cleaning kit, the Swiss knife and my Video Editing Laptop HP Pavilion dv6.

The laptop was for rushing out the express video highlights whenever I had the time.

Then on the third week of April 2013, it was another 5 full days of lecture shoot in a training institute. This time no dinner shoot so I can go home early.

Again, I had to condense the 5 days of event into 5 minutes. There was a cozy room next to the lecture hall where I sweated out the express video highlights.

The final week of April 2013 were 3 unrelated 1-day seminar shoots.

The video equipment used were the same except for one more XLR to XLR audio cable to connect the venue sound mixer output to my camcorder audio input.

So that’s my busy month of April 2013.

I hope to resume creating tutorials and tips on web videography.

(I am also looking forward to more opportunities for traveling video assignments)

Thanks for subscribing!

Step 1: Click on the video clip to be rotated.
Step 2: Click on the preview monitor.
Step 3: Hover your cursor around any corner of the preview monitor till the cursor becomes an arc shape.
Step 4: Click, hold and move the arc-shaped cursor to rotate your video.
Step 5: When you are happy with the rotated position, release the cursor.

That’s it!

You can go further by scaling up the size of the rotated video to fill the frame.
You can also create an animated rotation by toggling animation and using keyframes.

Used the mind map as a training resource for the Basic Videography Course.

I now recommend Adobe Premiere Elements for beginners to start video editing. Why? For the price of a home video editing software (and surprisingly), it comes with many professional features found in the Pro version. Furthermore, it makes video editing faster and it runs on both the PC and the Mac.

You want the motion to freeze in the middle of the action.

You also want this frozen still image to be the last frame of the clip and to stay for a few seconds.

Here’s how to freeze the last frame in Sony Vegas Pro with 8 steps.

Step 1: Click on clip at desired freeze frame point.

Step 2: Press keyboard “M” to mark the point.

Step 3: Insert Event Velocity.

Step 4: Expand track height.

Step 5: Click on Velocity line at the marker point to create a keyframe.

Step 6: Click on Velocity line near the marker point to create the second keyframe.

Step 7: Drag the second keyframe down to 0%.

Step 8: Drag the second keyframe to marker.

That’s it! Playback and watch.

To perform edits, users have two monitors—a source and a record monitor—controlled by two corresponding filmstrips. Users control the filmstrips by running their fingers back and forth across them, using gestures to perform edits. The TouchEdit’s timeline based editor also enables users to interact directly with the video and eight channels of audio.

Who created it?
- Dan Lebental. He worked on editing movies like Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Elf, and Cowboys & Aliens.
- He described the app as designed to bring the simplicity of editing real film to the iPad.

REALLY PROFESSIONAL?

How many layers of video tracks? More than 2?
- Looks like it has only one track.
- There is the insert and overwrite mode to overcome this single track.
- You select a source segment and place it over the video on the track.

Any titling and sub-titling?
- None.

Any transitions and effects?
- None.

What are some notable features not found in other video editing apps?

- Edits with H.264 up to 1080p, MPEG-4 up to 640 by 480, M-JPEG up to 1280 by 720
- Can edit with multiple resolutions and frame rates
- Accommodates Multiple Sequences in each Projects
- Eight tracks of Mono or Stereo Sound
- Imports Media from Camera Roll, iTunes Sync and direct from Dropbox.
- Import and Manage Media in Collections (Bins)
- HDMI Output with full ‘client monitoring’ for supervised sessions (AV Connection Kit required)
- Multi-Channel Sizable Timeline Display in Portrait
- Eight Channel Audio Mixer

What I did not like?
- Version 1.0 will not be able to work on stills. Maybe it will in version 1.1.
- Accepts MPEG-4 up to 640 by 480. What’s the point? Pros shoot and edit in HD.
- There is no free or lite version. It costs S$50 or maybe now $25.

Can it Work on iPhone?
- You need an IPad 2 or later; iOS 6 required.

What more did I learn?

- I need to use my iTunes Sharing or Dropbox to import the footage.
- I need to convert my footage to H.264 or shoot in H.264.

FINAL THOUGHTS on TOUCHEDIT

- Looks like TouchEdit is for assembling rough edits to be thrown back to the computer for the final edit.
- This means it is an app for the Video Editor working in a production team. Someone else will finish the job.
- So for a Videographer like me who does everything from shoot to edit to delivery, TouchEdit is not for me.
