Playback of Sony .mts files is very choppy--really unwatchable. May be lack of processor power, but they play fine on the camera. Very disappointed.

THE BEST player is FREE and it is MIRILLIS SPLASH LITE. Surprised no has mentioned this! I’ve been using this for over a year, they now have Splash Pro that I am about to buy.

VideoLAN VLC Media Player is definitely NOT the best player to play AVCHD. It’s very choppy, worse than WinDVD. I came to this page searching for a different player for my friend. I personally upload it to my Tivo HD (using pytivo). Tivo plays ANY video perfectly as long as you can upload it.

VLC wanted to install a ton of adware before downloading. It crashed IMMEDIATELY each and every time I opened a file!

I downloaded MIRILLIS SPLASH LITE, like Bobby said, and it works PERFECT!
    THANKS BOBBY FOR THE TIP!
